I ran a three-person daily market news offering and email. The email had over 300K subscribers and a 30% average open rate: people were drawn to our cheeky literary-crossover approach, where lines from Macbeth or Catch 22 were used to humorously underscore points about Cisco’s latest earnings report, for example. The Spy Who Came in from the Kohl’d remains one of the best subject lines I’ve ever written.
Additionally, my team developed comprehensive histories about public companies linked to their share price charts. We spent months researching the entire history of companies like Apple and Meta and assets like Bitcoin. Going through every earnings report ever written for Microsoft was a particular highlight, as was researching 200 years worth of gold price movements.
